Gyllenhaal began acting as a child with a screen debut in “City Slickers” (1991). But his breakthrough performances was as Homer Hickam in “October Sky” in 1999 and the title character in “Donnie Darko” in 2001. I remembered Jake for his role as a teenager in a fantastic film “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004) about cataclysmic climate event.

In 2005, Gyllenhaal portrayed Jack Twist in “Brokeback Mountain”. For his role in Brokeback Mountain, he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
